What does it take to succeed in the 2020's?
From our findings: dream big, be social, believe, persist
With years of experience and from the insights we gained in researching this book where we spoke to more than one hundred people about their careers, we discovered that people who successfully changed careers had some things in common. They all dreamed big, talked to a lot of people with good support from a few, had a (mostly) positive attitude, and didn’t give up. Add it all up and this is what it looks like to succeed at work in the 2020s:
Set a big goal. And make a detailed plan to achieve it.If you believe, and are persistent, you will get where you’re going so dream big. We call this ‘Career Imagination.’
Create a strong social network. This will help you build skills, find work, get supported, get advanced and have more fun. Your social network can be big or small, the important thing is that it functions.
Believe and be optimistic. Believe that you can do what want to do. It doesn’t have to be easy to be successful, but you need to know you can. You will adapt to change and manage risks which will give you confidence and help you keep believing.
Be persistent. Goals can take a long time to achieve. A big part of persistence is staying focused on what you want and committing to continuous learning and skill development.
