What does it take for career success in the 2020’s?
With years of experience and from the insights we gained in researching this book where we spoke to more than one hundred people about their careers, we discovered that people who successfully changed careers had some things in common. They all dreamed big, talked to a lot of people with good support from a few, had a (mostly) positive attitude, and didn’t give up. Add it all up and this is what it looks like to succeed at work in the 2020s:
1. A strong social network will help you build skills, find work, get supported, get advanced, and have more fun. Your social network can be big or small, the important thing is that it functions.
2. An optimistic outlook says you believe in yourself and you believe in your chances of success, of achieving what you set out to achieve.
3. Persistence is necessary to get started when you are unsure and to keep going when it gets tough. Goals take a long time to achieve and where careers are concerned, we’re talking years not months.
4. Set a big goal. If you believe, and are persistent, you will get where you’re going so dream big.
